Earning player of the game honors was second baseman John Oakes, who went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. Havana improves to 77-44 with the win. Oakes had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a first pitch fastball from Chris Van Arsdale, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Stogies a 5-4 lead. It was the 13th home run of the year for Oakes.
"This win gets us that much closer to where we want to be," Oakes said in postgame remarks.
