| Earthquakes Topple Pioneers as Marcial Shines | Earthquakes designated hitter Nelson Marcial put his stamp on his team's 8-6 win over the Vancouver Pioneers. Marcial was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4 for San Francisco in the contest. With the victory, the Earthquakes record now stands at 56-59.
Marcial had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 0-1 slider from Willard Stady, he banged a grand slam home run to left, giving the Earthquakes a 8-5 lead. It was the 14th home run of the year for Marcial.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Vancouver manager Todd Belcher. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
