The Portland Beavers beat the Dallas Texans, 5-3, at Waterfront Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of first baseman Robert Mentzer, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Chris Ackley earned his 2nd save in 2 chances. The Beavers have an impressive 72-43 record.

Mentzer had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 0-2 cutter from Ray Shumaker, he banged a 3-run home run to right, giving the Beavers a 5-2 lead. It was the 47th home run of the year for Mentzer.

Mentzer called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
