| Hornets Come Back Late to Top Pioneers | Both teams had their chances, but the Eureka Hornets eventually prevailed at The Nest.
Roberto Duran never let Vancouver get something going. The Eureka right-hander commanded his fastball in pitching the Hornets to a 2-1 win. Yoshiki Sato, credited with the win, is now 3-3. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings.
Had Fernando Vela not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Vela hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Hornets.
"We had a good game plan," Duran said, "and we were able to execute it."
Vancouver now has a 6-game losing streak.
