| Mustangs Roll Bombers, 4-3 | Mile High starter Katsumi Nakata pitched effectively against the South Carolina Bombers at McNichols Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a 4-3 win. Nakata got the win, improving to 6-5. He allowed 6 hits and walked 1 over 8 innings. Nakata allowed 3 earned runs. Obke van der Haar got the save, his 7th in 7 chances.
Had Gerard Wych not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Wych hit a 3-run home run. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Mustangs.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said South Carolina manager Randy Huggett. "But we decided not to take it."
Mile High now sits in 5th place in the Thurman Munson League Sparky Anderson Division at 46-62.
