The Bloomington Blazers had to overcome a big game from Midland catcher Waylon Swerdlow to leave Arson Arena with a 4-3 victory. Swerdlow was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Danny Reliford, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings.
Had Lloyd Murphy not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Murphy hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Blazers.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Murphy.
The Blazers bumped their record to 58-48 with this latest triumph.
