Republic Prevail, 7-6, Over Hawaii

The Hawaii Islanders and So Cal Republic provided some drama at Aloha Stadium.

The So Cal Republic eked out a 7-6 win versus the Hawaii Islanders at Aloha Stadium. Nobody did more than first baseman Justin Nichols, who captured player of the game honors. Khurshid Durrani earned the win to go to 9-6. He allowed 5 earned runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. George Fortin notched his 28th save in 31 chances.

Nichols contributed a big hit, a bases-clearing double, for So Cal in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 5-3, Nichols took a cutter from Fred Argueta and stroked the double to center. His 16th double of the season allowed the Republic to leap in front, 6-5.

Nichols called the triumph "a good team win."

The Republic bumped their record to 64-39 with this latest triumph.
