| Rockhounds Score Late, Top Pioneers, 6-5 | The Vancouver Pioneers got a superb performance from pitcher Dennis Gates. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Midland. The Rockhounds won the game, 6-5. In spite of the loss, Gates was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. Reliever Manuel Martínez picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. Darren Thomas took the loss. Amirtharaj Nagaraja notched his 15th save in 18 chances.
Had Hector Lopez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Lopez hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Rockhounds.
"You win some, you lose some. I don't get too caught up in all that," said Lopez.
The Rockhounds bumped their record to 56-48 with this latest triumph.
