| Tornadoes Rally to Eke Out Win | The Kansas City Tornadoes picked up a win at Aloha Stadium, knocking off the Hawaii Islanders, 3-2. Starting pitcher Tanner Johnson, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Kansas City reliever Nate Miller was credited with the win, to go to 6-2. Alejandro Ortega took the loss for Hawaii. Al Hrabosky Jr., credited with the save, is now 2 for 2 in save opportunities.
The Tornadoes got a big at-bat from designated hitter Omar Avila. For the game, Avila went 1 for 5 with a home run. In the top of the 11th, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 16th home run of the season gave Kansas City a 3-2 lead.
"Both teams played hard," said Kansas City manager Fernando Vargas.
The first-place Tornadoes, at 69-34, now lead their division by 5˝ games.
