| Earthquakes Score Late, Upend Texans, 3-2 | The San Francisco Earthquakes topped the Dallas Texans, 3-2, in Thurman Munson League action at Metroplex Park. The player of the game was San Francisco pitcher and Dalhart, Texas native Lloyd Huggins. San Francisco reliever Steve Cherry picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. Héctor Zúñiga shouldered the loss. Donald Barron, credited with the save, is now 6 for 7 in save opportunities.
Had Tatsuhito Suzuki not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Suzuki hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Earthquakes.
"We take it day by day here," said Suzuki, "and today was a good one for us."
The win puts the Earthquakes at 50-49, while the Texans drop to 41-61.
