The Havana Stogies started the League Pennant in style today, winning on the road against the Portland Beavers at Waterfront Park by a score of 7-2 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Stogies shortstop Hernando De Soto was named player of the game after he went 3-5 with a triple and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2.

De Soto had a big at-bat with runners on 1st and 3rd in the top of the third inning, when he hit a 2-run triple. The Stogies went on to win.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," De Soto said.

Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow at Waterfront Park. The scheduled starters for the game are Caiden Greenshield for Havana and Félix Reina for Portland.
