| Richard Handcuffs Rockhounds, Tornadoes Seize 2-0 Advantage in R2 | J.G. Richard pitched a gem to help the Kansas City Tornadoes escape with a tight 2-0 victory over the Midland Rockhounds in a low-scoring Divisional Championship contest today. The left-handed Richard threw 7 innings of shutout ball in the win, just enough for the Tornadoes on a day when their offense dried up. Kansas City now leads the best-of-7 series 2-0.
Richard, who leaned on his fastball, allowed no runs on just 3 hits over 7 innings for the Tornadoes. For the most part, Midland hitters were simply overmatched.
"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Richard said.
Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Field of Dreams in Midland.
