| Host Marauders Drop Pivotal Game 5, Now Trail Series 3-2 | Game 5 was big. So was Tanner Johnson.
The Kansas City starter rose to the occasion at Legends Park today, earning player of the game honors after leading the Tornadoes to a crucial 5-2 victory over the Maple Marauders. Johnson threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball as the Tornadoes won on the road to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 League Pennant.
Abalendu Manglorkar, who is a nine-time All-Star, chipped in for Kansas City with a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth. For the game, the second baseman had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Kansas City manager Fernando Vargas. "It's usually not just one thing."
Game 6 is scheduled for Friday. Slated to start are Mitsunari Kobayashi for the Maple Marauders and J.G. Richard for the the Kansas City Tornadoes.
