| Shaffner, Grognards Get 3-0 Win | St. Paul starter Jim Shaffner pitched effectively against the Paradise Island Pirates at Predator Park. The right-hander led his team to a 3-0 win. The save was credited to Pat Baer, his 5th. The Grognards bumped their record to 19-18 with this latest triumph.
Shaffner, who dominated for St. Paul, earned the victory to move to 3-3. He was in control the whole game, scattering 7 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 13. Paradise Island batters could never bunch up enough hits to produce a rally.
"Jim had electric stuff," said St. Paul manager Tony Rodríguez.
