| Calvan Shows Off, Hits for Cycle | Getting 4 hits in a game is no easy feat, but doing it to hit for the cycle is even more rare.
Ruben Calvan of the Normal Nutcrackers pulled it off today at Donald J. Trump Presidential Stadium, going 4-for-5 against the Panana City Bombers. His batting escapades sparked the Nutcrackers to a 9-5 victory.
Calvan tallied 4 runs and drove in 3 during the game. Hitting for the cycle is particularly rare because of the different skills required - enough power for a home run, enough speed for a triple and enough patience at the plate to see at least four hittable balls.
"It just happened," Calvan said to reporters after the win. "Must have been fate or something, I wasn't expecting it. Heck, I wasn't even really trying for it."
Ruben Calvan grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, walked in a run in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Jose Valadez in the 9th.
This year Calvan has collected a .250 batting average to date with 20 hits in 80 at-bats, 11 RBIs, 3 home runs and scored 15 times. He has played in 19 games. |
