St. Paul Grognards starter Ernie Cook was in fine form against the Yuma Varmits at The Thunderdome, leading his team to a 4-2 win. Cook went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 14. His record improves to 4-0. Pat Baer closed the game out for St. Paul, earning his 3rd save.
The Grognards got a big at-bat from designated hitter David Barbaro. For the game, Barbaro went 1-4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 2nd double of the season gave St. Paul a 2-1 lead.
Yuma manager Fernando Ramírez said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
