Varmits Prevail, 2-1, Over Wichita

Crowds lined up early in front of The Range, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2038 ROOKIE LEAGUE season. On the mound was Mario Zayas for the visiting Wichita Storm and Josh Duke for the hometown Yuma Varmits. In a spirited contest, the Varmits pulled out the win, defeating the Storm by the score of 2-1. Earning player of the game honors was Josh Duke. Duke went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 9 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 1-0.

Eduardo Munoz aided the Yuma cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the shortstop was 2-3 with 2 singles.

"I was a little disappointed," said Wichita manager Ramón Rivera. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
