| Rhinos Win at Portland, 6-3 | Rubber City designated hitter Tony Gomez was a significant contributor in his team's 6-3 triumph over the Portland Beavers. He was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for Rubber City. Katsutaro Nishikawa was the winner. Over 6 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Even with the win, the Rhinos have a dismal 29-60 record.
The Rhinos got a big at-bat from center fielder Jimmy Wynn. For the game, Wynn was 1 for 2 with a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. In the top of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 10th double of the season gave Rubber City a 4-3 lead.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Gomez told the Rubber City Herald.
