| Rockhounds Win to Extend Series Lead to 3-0 | The Midland Rockhounds moved to within one game of the Divisional Championship today, downing the visiting Georgia Grays at Field of Dreams by a score of 5-3. Rockhounds left-hander Andy Mendoza was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 5 innings allowing 3 runs. The win gives the Rockhounds a 3-0 advantage in the best-of-7 Divisional Round.
Tied up with the Grays in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Rockhounds got a boost from catcher Ron Jeremy. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Jeremy saw a 1-1 fastball from Pete Murphy and hit a 3-run home run to break the stalemate and put Midland on top, 5-2.
"It was a solid team effort," said Mendoza after the game.
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Field of Dreams in Midland. The scheduled starters for the game are Stone Carlton for the Georgia Grays and Ruben Fernandez for the the Midland Rockhounds.
