| Victoria Breaks Through for First Win in Single A League Championship; Now Trails 2-1 | The Victoria Vikings have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Kingwood Knights, winning 3-2 at Stable Park today. Vikings left-hander Bill Kunkel was named player of the game after he threw 8 innings allowing 2 runs. The win cuts the deficit facing the Vikings to 2-1 in the best-of-7 Single A League Championship.
Javier Pena had the most critical at-bat for Victoria. With two in the top of the ninth inning, Pena hit a 2-1 fastball from Alton Lesage for a run-scoring single. It put Victoria in front, 3-2.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Kingwood skipper Chris Schell.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow. Slated to start are Luis Madrid for Victoria and Jesse Lundblad for Kingwood.
