| Gonzalez Handcuffs Black Bears, Mustang Seize 4-3 Advantage in R1 | The Carson City Mustang got a strong performance from pitcher Tino Gonzalez, who stymied the visiting Fraser Valley Black Bears en route to a 7-0 win in Game 7 of the Double A League Championship today. The Black Bears could never get a bead on the right-handed Gonzalez, who threw 7 innings of shutout ball to earn player of the game honors. The Mustang now hold a 4-3 in the best-of-7 series.
Gonzalez, a native of Mixco, Guatemala, was dealing all game. He kept Fraser Valley hitters off-balance, while giving the Mustang 7 quality innings. Gonzalez threw 122 pitches, allowing 6 hits and striking out 7.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Carson City manager Todd Barrett.
