| Cardinals, Rangers Play 10 to Settle Game 3, Montreal Now Leads Series 2-1 | As the Montreal Cardinals and Rockville Rangers battled through extra innings, it was a rookie who made the difference.
Young Montreal center fielder Lorenzo Zarate, 21, took player of the game honors at Denis Coderre Stadium today with a strong hitting performance in the 10-inning marathon. Zarate went 3 for 4 with a home run, a triple, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 5 during the 9-6 Montreal win over the Rangers. The win gives the Cardinals a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 Winter League Championship.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the tenth. With one out, Zarate hit a fastball from Justin Merz for a 3-run home run. The Cardinals, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Zarate.
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Denis Coderre Stadium in Montreal. Slated to start are Ivan Camarena for Rockville and Randy Johnson Jr. for Montreal.
