Cardinals Rally Past Nutcrackers to Claim 2-1 Series Lead

A clutch 9th inning gave the Montreal Cardinals a walk-off win over the Normal Nutcrackers and a 2-1 lead in the League Championship Series at Denis Coderre Stadium today. Young designated hitter Danny Landa, 20, earned player of the game honors for the Cardinals, after he hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice.

The Cardinals were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when first baseman Salvatore Galarraga turned a 0-1 fastball from Alfredo Velasquez into a 2-run home run. The walk-off home run sent a roar through the crowd and gave Montreal a thrilling 8-7 win.

"It feels good to get this one," Galarraga told the Montreal Daily News.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Denis Coderre Stadium in Montreal. Slated to start are Shane Cavanaugh for the Normal Nutcrackers and Lorenzo Oquendo for the the Montreal Cardinals.
