Garcia, Normal Start League Championship Series Strong with Home Win

The Normal Nutcrackers started the League Championship Series in style today, downing the visiting Montreal Cardinals at The Nutcracker Suite by a score of 8-4 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Nutcrackers right fielder Sergio Garcia was named player of the game after he was 4 for 5 with 2 home runs and a triple. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4.

Carlos Torres chipped in for Normal with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the third. For the game, the left fielder had 3 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 2 singles, 2 runs scored, and 3 runs batted in.

"Things broke our way today and that's great," Nutcrackers manager Richard Lawson said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Nutcracker Suite. Slated to start are Sal Medrano for the Montreal Cardinals and Shane Cavanaugh for the the Normal Nutcrackers.
