Golden Bears Hammered by Watkins, Drop Game 2 to Patriots

The George Washington Patriots relied on the hitting of left fielder Gilbert Watkins to get by the Billings West Golden Bears, 7-6, in Game 2 of the League Championship Series today. For the game, Watkins was 3-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. The clubs are now tied, 1-1.

George Lazenby aided the George Washington cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the second baseman went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk.

"Every team in baseball loses," Golden Bears manager Brian Neyman said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."

The next game is scheduled for Wednesday at Guadalajara HS Grounds. Slated to start are Tim Norman for the George Washington Patriots and Spencer Dann for the the Billings West Golden Bears.
