| Varela goes 4-for-4, Commies Move to 3-2 | The Caribbean Commies beat the Brooklyn Cyclones, 6-3, at Vin Scully Park. Caribbean designated hitter Francisco Varela earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Jose Rodriguez earned the save for Caribbean, his 1st of the year. Caribbean, now 3-2, has gotten their season off to a good start.
Varela contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for Caribbean in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-1, Varela took a slider from Al Hadlock and stroked the double to left-center. His 2nd double of the season allowed the Commies to leap in front, 3-2.
"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Varela.
