| Cowboys Hammered by Cummings, Drop Game 1 to Bulldogs | The Fresno State Bulldogs started the NCAA College World Series in style today, winning on the road against the Oklahoma State Cowboys at Canaries Ballpark by a score of 14-5 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Bulldogs first baseman Mark Cummings was named player of the game after he went 2-3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice.
Fresno State relied on the hitting of Dan Holm to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Bulldogs on top, 14-5. For the game, Holm had 1 home run and 1 single in 6 at-bats.
"I like our mindset right now," said Fresno State manager Motoyuki Kokawa.
Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at Canaries Ballpark. The scheduled starters for the game are Jeff Logsdon for Fresno State and Andy Crampton for Oklahoma State.
