| Hops Win at Portland, 8-4 | The San Diego Hops beat the Portland Beavers, 8-4, at Waterfront Park. The Hops got a fine performance from second baseman Jorge Martínez, who captured player of the game honors. He went 1 for 2 with a home run and 3 walks. He scored 3 times. San Diego is now 39-46, while Portland is 53-33.
In the top of the 6th, catcher Akitoshi Tomita gave San Diego the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Hops had been trailing 3-2, but the two-out single off Portland pitcher Félix Reina changed that -- and San Diego went on to win.
"It was a solid team effort," said Tomita after the game.
