Gaines Sensational, 5-for-6

Pleasantville shortstop Paul Gaines added his name to the record books with a 5-hit spree at Chickenhawks Stadium today, but found his special moment spoiled when the Norwich Navigators took a shootout win over the Panthers.

"I would have much preferred getting only a couple of hits and winning the game," he confessed to reporters afterward. "It's hard to go back into the clubhouse and celebrate a 5-hit game when you also lost."

Panthers skipper Xavier Chávez called Gaines's game "a once-in-a-lifetime moment."

"It's a shame the guy can't really enjoy it," he said. "It's also a shame what happened with our pitching today, but at least that we can try to fix."

Paul Gaines struck out in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

Gaines is presently hitting at a .328 pace with 5 home runs, 24 RBIs and has scored 33 times.
