Pioneers Drop Bombers with Late Score

The Pioneers grabbed a win, 6-4, at Bomber Ballpark, overcoming a fine effort from South Carolina pitcher Lucas Duke. Duke went 6.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. Dan Miscavage, credited with the win, is now 3-6. He allowed 4 runs on 7 hits in 8.1 innings. Darren Thomas got the save, his 7th in 8 chances.

Had Rob Muniz not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Muniz hit a grand slam. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Pioneers.

"I know we have our doubters," said South Carolina manager Randy Huggett. "But I still have high hopes for this team."

The Pioneers raised their record to 33-51.
