5-Hit Game for Mena
Thursday, January 27th, 2033
El Paso second baseman Ivan Mena added his name to the record books with a 5-hit spree at The Back Draft today, but found his special moment spoiled when the Rockville Rangers took a shootout win over the Bomberos.
"I would have much preferred getting only a couple of hits and winning the game," he confessed to reporters afterward. "It's hard to go back into the clubhouse and celebrate a 5-hit game when you also lost."
Bomberos skipper Yoshida Nakao called Mena's game "a once-in-a-lifetime moment."
"It's a shame the guy can't really enjoy it," he said. "It's also a shame what happened with our pitching today, but at least that we can try to fix."
Ivan Mena singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Naotake Nakamura in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
Thus far this year Mena is batting .203 with 4 home runs, 11 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
