Barnes Torches Poly for 5 Hits
Thursday, May 4th, 2034
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Ryan Barnes, it came around today.
The 18-year-old left fielder scattered hits all over Apollos Ballpark to pace the Pleasantville Panthers to a 6-5 victory over the Riverside Poly.
Riverside skipper Gary Corwin told reporters in the press room that "Barnes deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Barnes hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Ryan Barnes singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
In 34 games this season Barnes is batting .363 with 49 hits and 7 home runs. He has scored 33 runs and driven in 26.
