After his 5-hit effort at Alleycats Ballpark was tarnished by Tioga Central's 14-9 loss to the Grand Island Islanders, first baseman Pete Valley told BNN beat writers it was "a missed opportunity for a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "I would have been happy to stop there if it meant we got a win."

He didn't get the win, but the 14-year-old had a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Islanders.

"His swing is getting there," said Tigers skipper Gabriel McKinnes after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Pete did that to perfection today and we wasted it."

Pete Valley singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, hit a three-run double in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.

This season Valley is batting .358 with 44 hits, 7 home runs, 32 RBIs, 21 walks, .467 OBP and has scored 27 runs. He has played in 38 games.
