Mercado Keeps Hit Streak Alive Wednesday, April 5th, 2034 The number just keeps getting higher. Grand Island shortstop Jose Mercado has now extended his hitting string to 20 games. He did it today with 2 hits in 5 at-bats as the Grand Island took the 10-8 win over the Riverside Poly at Apollos Ballpark. "Who knows how long it will go on?" Riverside manager Gary Corwin said. "He's certainly tough to pitch to right now." Jose Mercado was hit by a pitch in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, flied out in the 8th, struck out in the 9th and hit an RBI double in the 11th. For the year Mercado is hitting .377 with 4 home runs. His stats include 28 runs batted in and 26 runs scored. |
