Hot Bat Cooled, Wakeley Hitless Against Tigers Sunday, May 1st, 2033 Late in the game, all eyes in Ballpark of Ecatepec HS were on Nate Wakeley as he stepped into the batter box. His 23-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for Wakeley, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end. If there was a silver lining for Wakeley today, it was that his Lerna Lions won the game anyway, stopping the Tenafly Tigers by the score of 6-4. "Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," Wakeley told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 23 straight games. It's something I will always remember." Currently Wakeley is hitting .430 and has collected 7 home runs, 43 RBIs and scored 25 times, while playing in 49 games. |
