Streak Finally Over, Avalos Held Hitless Wednesday, March 23rd, 2033 For once, it was the Jefferson Indians picking up the slack for Juan Avalos. The club's "offensive catalyst," as Jefferson manager Dan Miller has frequently called him, went uncharacteristically silent today and saw his 22-game hitting streak snapped by the San Marin Mustangs. Avalos was bailed out by the rest of the Indians, however, who stopped the Mustangs, 9-8. The 18-year-old third baseman finished the day 0-for-4, and told reporters at the postgame press conference that "everybody did their job but me." "Not that it was a huge problem -- we still won the game," he said with a grin. "The streak was a good run though. I'll try to start another one tomorrow." Avalos has collected 18 hits for the Indians this year, 5 of them home runs. He has also netted 10 RBIs and scored 15 runs while batting .327. |
