Ono Sizzles -- Smokes Golden Eagles for 5 Hits
Sunday, June 25th, 2034
Chiba Lotte first baseman Takato Ono went down swinging at Ballpark of Nasu College today, knocking out 5 hits even as his Marines fell, 6-5.
"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Ono said after his 5-for-6 performance against the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles. "No offense meant to Tohoku Rakuten, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well."
After the game, his manager elaborated on the first baseman's improvements, saying Ono spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.
"That's what I'm trying to do," Ono agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
Takato Ono singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and struck out in the 10th.
For the season Ono has hit .287 with 2 home runs and 12 RBIs. He has played in 22 games and scored 11 times.
