Watts Is King of Swing: Goes Deep 3 Times
Thursday, April 29th, 2032
His swing was a thing of beauty. Three times Jeff Watts swung the bat and three times he delivered a home run. It was an awesome sight to behold at Ballpark of Nasu College, but to no avail, for as good as he was, the Saitama Seibu Lions were better.
The Chiba Lotte Marines couldn't capitalize on the big game from Watts and dropped the contest 14-12.
The mood in the Marines clubhouse afterward was subdued, with several players remarking that they had allowed the Lions to spoil the day for Watts.
"Some of the boys are beating themselves up about it," Chiba Lotte manager Motoyuki Hayashi said. "They know we win as a team and lose as a team, but it's hard to really put that idea into practice on a day when one of you was playing on such an obviously higher level."
In addition to the homers, Watts collected 7 RBIs and scored 4 runs.
"I got three pitches down the pipe and popped them," the Chiba Lotte first baseman told reporters. "Today I was in a groove. Tomorrow I could just pop the same pitches up and go 0-for-3."
Jeff Watts hit a two-run home run off Ryan Desmond in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Justin Dopp in the 4th, walked in the 7th, hit a solo-shot off Matt Todd in the 9th and struck out in the 11th.
Currently Watts is hitting .253 and has collected 7 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 17 times, while playing in 25 games.
