Vera Slams 5 Hits for Washington State Monday, April 3rd, 2034 The Washington State Cougars stopped the Oregon State Beavers by a score of 10-0 at Palisades Ballpark today, with the lion's share of the credit going to second baseman Jonathan Vera. The 20-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits. "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Vera said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard." Vera did just that in his 5 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Beavers. "Not much that I can say," offered Oregon State manager Mike Cole. "He just hammered the heck out of us." Jonathan Vera hit a solo-shot off Colt Wilson in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
