Owls End Wirfel's Streak Monday, March 20th, 2034 It was a doubly miserable day today for Barry Wirfel of the Washington State Cougars, as he saw his 21-game hitting streak end and his team lose 8-5 to the Rice Owls at Toughkenamon College Fields. The 21-year-old center fielder was held hitless in 4 at-bats by the Owls. "Anyone on a 21-game hitting streak is going to be a tough out," Rice manager Jimmy Naylor said later. "But we had a plan and we were careful about it, and got it done." |
