Wirfel Extends Hit Streak to 20 Games
Friday, April 29th, 2033
Barry Wirfel continued his streak at Tribe Ballpark today, even as the ballgame did not go his way. The Washington State center fielder was 1-for-4 in today's contest and now has hit safely in his last 20 games. The Cougars were not as fortunate, losing 8-4 to the Fresno State Bulldogs.
"Wirfel was hitting everything we threw at him," said Fresno State manager Xavier Chávez. "He is a tough out. Fortunately, things went our way in the ballgame today and we came away with a win." Barry Wirfel struck out in the 1st, struck out in the 4th, struck out in the 6th and singled in the 9th.
This season Wirfel is batting .401 with 19 home runs. He has scored 41 runs and driven in 49.
