Red-Hot Wescott Scorches Bulldogs
Tuesday, April 19th, 2033
California right fielder Evan Wescott went down swinging at Crowley College Grounds today, knocking out 5 hits even as his Golden Bears fell, 12-9.
"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Wescott said after his 5-for-6 performance against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. "No offense meant to Mississippi State, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well."
After the game, his manager elaborated on the right fielder's improvements, saying Wescott spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.
"That's what I'm trying to do," Wescott agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
Evan Wescott grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Ken Robinson in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
For the year Wescott has hit at a .235 clip with 15 RBIs, 5 home runs and 16 runs scored.
