Wirfel Belts 5 Hits Monday, April 18th, 2033 Barry Wirfel had an answer for everything the Oregon State Beavers threw at him today at Palisades Ballpark. The Washington State center fielder went 5-for-6 in the game to put his name in the record book and put the Cougars on top, 18-7. Summing up his batting philosophy to BNN writers after the game, Wirfel said, "I just see the ball and I hit it." Barry Wirfel singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Jim Proehl in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th and doubled in the 8th. This year Wirfel has socked 40 hits in 105 at-bats for a .381 average with 11 home runs. He is getting on base at a .463 pace and his totals also include 26 RBIs and 27 runs scored.
