Volunteers End Hawkins's Streak Monday, April 11th, 2033 The Virginia Cavaliers lost to the Tennessee Volunteers 4-3 today at Ballpark of Redwood College, but perhaps the bigger news was the end of Brian Hawkins's 23-game hitting streak. The catcher went 0-for-3 on the day. "We felt if we could slow down Hawkins, we would win the game," Volunteers manager Mark Ellis explained. "They really seemed to feed off his streak, so we tried to put more emphasis on shutting him down." So far this year Hawkins has 10 home runs and a .444 batting average. |
