Hit Streak Over, Gators Stop Smith Saturday, May 1st, 2032 For once, it was the Michigan Wolverines picking up the slack for Noah Smith. The club's "offensive catalyst," as Michigan manager Esteban Núñes has frequently called him, went uncharacteristically silent today and saw his 22-game hitting streak snapped by the Florida Gators. Smith was bailed out by the rest of the Wolverines, however, who stopped the Gators, 2-1. The 18-year-old shortstop finished the day 0-for-3, and told reporters at the postgame press conference that "everybody did their job but me." "Not that it was a huge problem -- we still won the game," he said with a grin. "The streak was a good run though. I'll try to start another one tomorrow." So far in 2032 Smith is batting .369 with 5 home runs, 23 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He has 41 hits in 111 at-bats and a .489 OBP. |
