Michigan reliever Mike Thompson could miss the remainder of the season because of a torn rotator cuff. He exited yesterday's Oklahoma game after injuring himself while throwing a pitch. The original diagnosis said Thompson would be out 7-8 months. Later on his doctors said he could be out even longer. "He's done," his manager commented at the BNN press conference. "It's a season-ending injury, but it could have been worse. It's not the worst-case scenario, so we're happy about that."

Thompson has compiled an ERA of 8.76 so far this season, winning 0 games with no losses and no saves. In 6 relief appearances he has hurled 12.1 innings, yielded 17 hits and struck out 11. Opposing hitters have batted .315 against Thompson.
