Rowdy Players Suspended by League Thursday, July 6th, 2034 Yesterday at The Republic Fernando Calvo and Graham Bennett got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the New Orleans Jedi Knights and Brisbane Bush Wackers. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified both ballclubs that Calvo and Bennett would be given 5-game suspensions for fighting. A look at his current stats shows Calvo with a .372 average, 2 home runs, 9 RBIs and 14 runs scored. He has played in 22 games. In 15 starts this season, Bennett has picked up 7 wins while suffering 3 losses. He has pitched 86.2 innings, allowed 55 hits, struck out 86 and posted a 2.70 ERA. |
