Gleason Big Deal in Nichols: Hits for Cycle
Saturday, June 17th, 2034
Ben Gleason did everything he could for the Nichols Gnats today -- literally.

The 22-year-old center fielder hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Gnats, going for the cycle and helping them get past the San Angelo Mustangs, 5-3, at The Pond.

"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Gleason reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."

In a game headed for the record books, Gleason banged out 4 hits in 4 at-bats and totaled 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."

"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."

Ben Gleason tripled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Garth Bankston in the 5th and singled in the 7th.

For the season, Gleason is hitting at a .278 clip with 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and has scored 15 runs. He has 40 hits, 16 walks and a .352 on-base percentage.
