Red-Hot Tovar Scorches Gnats Sunday, July 24th, 2033 Even as a kid, Mario Tovar said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At The Pond today, Tovar showed how well he learned that lesson. The 19-year-old designated hitter had 5 hits in 5 at-bats for the New Orleans Jedi Knights, helping his team knock off the Nichols Gnats by a score of 8-1. "They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did today." Mario Tovar singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 9th. This year Tovar is batting .275 with 100 hits and 12 home runs.
