Velez Has Hot Hand, Bangs 5 hits Thursday, August 17th, 2034 It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Benito Velez today -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at The Coliseum and paced the Ducks to a 18-8 win over the Sandy Springs Spartans. After his dynamite batting performance, the Long Island second baseman told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 6 tries and put his name in the record book.
